MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT
Malo, elelei. My name is Latu William Sinali, President of the NPO Japan Tonga Friendship Association. I came to Japan in 1985, entered Daito Bunka University, and started my rugby life in Japan. After graduation, I was able to continue working at Sanyo Electric for a long time. Today, many Tongan rugby players are active in Japan, and many international students who want to become professionals come to Japan.
I want to support the Tongan people living in Japan, deepen the friendly relationship with Japan through cultural exchange events, and contribute to the development of youth through rugby. I would be happy if you could connect with us in various places through various activities and take an interest in the Kingdom of Tonga. PURPOSE
・This association shares various information so that Tongans living in Japan can live with peace of mind, provide opportunities and platforms for the citizens of both Japan and Tonga to direct contact in the community and deepening understanding of each other’s culture, sports, traditional events, etc.
ACTIVITIES
- Life support for Tongan residents in Japan and information sharing with the home country
- Project to create exchange opportunities to deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Tonga
- Friendship projects through rugby lessons for youth and exchanges with players
HISTORY
１９８０ APRIL
・Nofomuli Taumoefolau and Hopoi Taione came to Japan as first Tongan exchange students.
１９８５ FEBRUARY
・Latu William Sinali and Watesoni Namoa came to Japan as exchange students.
２０２０ OCTOBER
・Founder’s meeting for the establishment of an NPO corporation
２０２１ MARCH
・NPO establishment preparation meeting
・Submitted an application for NPO establishment to the Governor of Saitama Prefecture
２０２１ APRIL
・Received an approval letter of the NPO
２０２１ MAY
・Completed registration of the NPO
２０２２ FEBRUARY・Held the first NPO general meeting
